FFL & PPT transfers

Transfers at Oak Tree are processed by California Gun Girls (CGG), our sister company and the licensed dealer on site. Read what to bring before you buy or ship anything into California.

CGG is the dealer of record on every transfer: it receives dealer shipments of firearms and ammunition for California residents and runs private party transfers in person, at the counter at Oak Tree.

No USPS. Firearms and ammunition shipped through the U.S. Postal Service are not accepted.

Before you buy

Every dealer shipment has to meet three conditions before it ships to CGG.

  1. California compliant

The firearm and everything shipped with it must be legal in California. That rules out assault weapons, short-barreled rifles and shotguns, high-capacity magazines, and handguns not on the California roster, unless you are a sworn law enforcement officer.

  2. Shipped by a licensed dealer

Firearms are accepted only from licensed FFL dealers, never from private individuals. The sending dealer must also know how to ship into California: the state places extra requirements on out-of-state dealers, and many are unfamiliar with them or choose not to comply, so confirm this before you buy.

  3. Set up in person first

Come to the counter at Oak Tree to arrange the transfer before anything ships. The FFL and the shipping address go to the dealer only after setup.

Private party transfers

Selling a firearm to another private party in California goes through a licensed dealer; it is done at the counter.

How it works

  • Buyer and seller come in together, with the firearm unloaded and cased.
  • Both bring valid California identification; the buyer also brings a Firearm Safety Certificate or proof of an exemption.
  • The state's Dealer Record of Sale (DROS) is submitted at the counter, and the buyer collects the firearm after California's ten-day waiting period.
  • Call ahead to confirm what to bring and when the counter can run a transfer.
